MANCHURIAN PHEASANT

The Manchurian Pheasants are unique in their own way. Originating from upper Mongolia this ring neck pheasant is considered by some to be the true breed of ring neck pheasants. They are larger than the Chinese ring necks found in the wild in north america are sometimes called "Blue backs" because the blue patches of feathers on the back and wings. The males are bigger than the females weighing around 3 to 3.5 lb.. at maturity. We breed strong healthy mature birds with excellent color, strong flight characteristics and high reproduction rates. Mature birds will begin displaying beautiful feather patterns, white, striped heads and wide, ringed necks around 16 - 20 weeks of age. We have noticed this breed of pheasant has a “high strung” temperament, a desirable quality for a strong release bird. When they reach the age of 6 weeks we put peepers on each bird to prevent cannibalism. These pheasants are a great asset to any place that offers game bird hunting and wishes to boast having the largest and healthiest hunting pheasants. The male's territorial call of a loud KOCK-cack or cuck-et, cuck-et, followed by a loud clapping of the wings tells everyone around who is in charge. The ring necked pheasant is polygamous, and one male will support a harem of as many as 12 hens. Beginning in March, the male establishes a territorial "crowing ground," in or near protective cover. The cock bird will defend this area, and the hens he has attracted, through vicious fighting with other aggressive males. These pheasants are best kept in outdoor runs or large flight pens. They are also very winter hardy.
